NERO consists of a high-speed network with hubs in Bend,
Corvallis, Eugene, Hermiston, Klamath Falls, La Grande,
Medford, Ontario, Pendleton, Portland, and Salem. All hub
sites are interconnected at a minimum of 1Gbps speeds. The
core hub sites, Corvallis, Eugene, and Portland, are fully
interconnected at 10Gbps.
Our partners aggregate traffic from their various networks
and interconnect to NERO at one of NERO's hubs. In some
cases, partner equipment may be colocated at the
hub. Alternatively, a partner's site may be connected to
NERO via a circuit from another provider.
NERO provides internet transit connectivity for our
partners via Level3 circuits from the Eugene and Portland
hubs. The Eugene circuit is a 1Gbps path south and the
Portland circuit is a 10Gbps path north. In addition, NERO
participates in local internet exchanges, such as
the Oregon IX and
the NWAX, and the
Oregon Gigapop. Traffic between
NERO's partners and other members of these exchanges are routed
via the exchanges, thus saving bandwidth on the internet transit
NERO scheduled maintenance windows are 04:00AM to 06:00AM
daily. Routine maintenance is performed on Mondays, but
critical maintenance may be done on any day during the 04:00
to 06:00 window. NERO will provide notification 2 business days
in advance of scheduled maintenance activities whenever
possible. On rare occasions it may be necessary to perform
emergency maintenance with little or no advance warning, for
example to restore service after an outage.
Additionally, our providers for circuits and internet
transit will notify us of upcoming maintenance. NERO will
post these notices as they are received.
Maintenance and outage announcements are made to the
mailing list. Please see
archive for recent announcements. Alternatively, you can
